Leaking Water Storage Tank?

Leaking GRP Water Storage Tank – How to Fix?

Tank: 3x3x3 meter sectional cold water tankLeaking GRP Water Storage Tank

Problem: Leaking water around the base of the tank

Leaking GRP Water Storage Tank – First Site Assessment

Our technical team were called to visit a site where our customer reported a leaking GRP water storage tank and required assistance.
On arriving at the site, the team accessed a 3mx3mx3meter sectional cold water tank with a total holding capacity of 27,000 litres which immediately showed signs of a leak which was originating from the tank divisional wall.

Identifying the problem

It looks like piers had been set out at 1m centres but due to the tank having a 50/50 division and being 3m long it required a pier at 500mm centres which may have been an afterthought. As you can see the pier is made of block work, brick and plywood.
Totally different to the other pier walls. This may be the reason the tank is leaking as the pier is more than likely out of tolerance.
The tank base is the most important part of a tank install and if it’s not right first time problems such as this will happen. It’s got to be correct from the start”

Ryan Keltie, National Sales Manager

This tank can hold a nominal capacity of 27,000 litres which is 27 tonne plus the tank weight. Once the foundations and base of the tank are installed correctly the tank will not encounter stress points which over time inevitably cause leaks.

From the image of the water tank base, it is clear to see an issue with the tank supports. From initial installation, the supporting piers could not hold the weight of the tank thus creating stress points along the divisional wall.
