Sheffield Wednesday FC

Sheffield Wednesday FC is a professional football club association based in Sheffield, England. The team competes in the English Football Championship, and are one of the oldest professional clubs in the world ranking 5th oldest in the English leagues. Sheffield Wednesday have called Hillsborough Stadium there home since 1899.

The stadium hosts a maximum capacity of up to 40,000 fans and due to the rise in their success as a club the Stadium has been getting closer to reaching capacity over the years.

The football stadium is viewed as a historic ground bursting with character, it has two large two-tiered stands and two large single-tiered stands, all stands are of a similar capacity with the South Stand for home supports, this being the largest with the West Stand, usually housing the away supporters, being the smallest of the four.

Our Clients Water Storage Requirements

Sheffield Wednesday Football Stadium currently prior to the upgrade had a water storage tank to accommodate a capacity of 15,000l litres. Due to the demand of an upcoming semi-final EFL Championship game, maintenance engineers examined the existing water tank capacity and advised a larger tank would be required should the stadium reach maximum personnel capacity.

Nicholson Plastics were asked to dismantle and replace the current CWS tank with a larger tank in order to provide enough facilities for the number of fans attending the final EFL Championship game.

GRP Water Storage Tank Solution

Our technical sales team received the water tank order on Friday the 6th of May. Due to the short time frame for manufacturing and delivery our manufacturing team worked above and beyond to have a 5m x 2m x 1.5m hot press sectional water tank moulded in time to allow for delivery, tank assembly ensuring water usage would be available for the final game which was earning a crowd of 40,000 people, which was taking place on the 13th of May.

Our manufacturing team had these panels completed and ready for delivery by Wednesday morning. Due to site restrictions Nicholson’s Plastics tank assembly crew were only able to gain access to the site the Thursday, the day before the final EFL Championship game.

To accommodate the short deadline for construction our installation team worked tirelessly outside of normal working hours in order complete the build in time for kick off.

Our team were pleased to confirm sign off on the water tank installation, the turnaround time from order to install was completed within six days.

This demonstrated our dedication to meeting our customers’ needs as well the organisational skills of our logistics team. This set Nicholson Plastics aside from other companies in our industry.

Our mission: To help you find the most cost-effective solution for your water storage requirements.
